About the Interactive House

The aim of the Letchworth Interactive Retrofit House website is to provide homeowners and landlords in Letchworth with guidance on a range of retrofit measures.

This website has been developed by the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP) for Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation (LGCHF) with support from People Powered Retrofit, and thanks to funding from Greater South East Net Zero Hub Community Energy Fund.

Why do we need to retrofit?

Nearly 30% of carbon emissions in the UK come from our homes. Many homes are draughty and expensive to heat.

Retrofitting your home to make it more energy-efficient is a key way to help reduce your carbon footprint, whilst providing a range of additional benefits such as:

  • Saving you money on your energy bills.
  • Providing better indoor air quality and making your home more comfortable for you and your family.
  • Increasing the property value of your home.

What information is provided?

There is already a significant amount of good quality retrofit guidance out there and we think it is important not to unnecessarily duplicate information or ‘reinvent the wheel’.

As such, the Interactive House provides succinct information such as:

  • A summary of the retrofit measure including its complexity and estimated costs.
  • Clear guidance on the measures’ applicability according to Letchworth’s Design Principles.
  • Commentary from the ASBP team on wider sustainability considerations such as the use of ‘breathable’ materials, health & wellbeing aspects, and the ‘circular economy’.
  • Real-life insights from People Powered Retrofit from a retrofit study of a ‘typical’ home in Letchworth.
  • Links to case studies and further information/reading in other relevant retrofit guidance documents.
